as I have mentioned before in a post--- when you paint interior doors black, it really makes them look more sophisticated and gives the space a fresh and dramatic look.

the other day I was glancing at dimples & tangles blog and I came across a post where she has painted most of the interior doors in her home from white to black and I think it makes a world of difference and they look ahhh-mazing!

I am still in love with the allmighty all white kitchen, which is still [and may always be] classic, timeless and good design. however, I have been seeing a push towards warm brass/gold metals, patterned & colored back splash, and incorporating more natural materials/elements.

needing a statement piece above your bed, over the sofa, or on that empty wall?

a sunburst mirror is the perfect solution

there are many different styles out there and they are just enough style and personality without being over the top. I love all of these and think I might be grabbing one for above my bed.

feel good friday

It's been a crazy week around here-- baby has had the flu [probably the saddest thing ever] :( so not much sleep or sanity for either of us.

I am excited for the weekend, time to spend with the hubs and get out and do something now that baby is finally feeling better. plus the weather if supposed to be nice finally.

I found this quote just puroozing --wait, is that a word? if not I think it def should be.

sometimes I feel a little self-conscious and inexperienced when it comes to my design ideas and advice. like somehow what I write about people don't see as good design taste.

 but------

that's what makes design so unique and fun. that not everyone has the same style, not everyone loves the same decor, colors, patterns, furniture, etc. 

and you shouldn't feel like you have  to like something just because you saw some "big name designer" who does, or your neighbor, or whoever!

I try really hard to find and post things I myself would enjoy reading and items I would buy. and things I don't love, I don't post about.

I have to admit, I started this search for myself because we are in need of a new floor lamp.

we had this lamp in our living room that had a paper shade from pretty much floor to the top of lamp, until a couple weeks ago when our little curious george explorer baby pulled it down and cut a huge hole in the shade. [my husband was watching him when this happened.....not pointing any fingers though...]

5 fresh trends for 2014

as I have been looking through pinterest and the internet in general, I have come across some trends I feel will truly emerge and shine in 2014. 

these 5 trends I absolutely love and think I could easily incorporate into my own home.

1. brass is back

brass is gold's sister and just like gold, it can go terribly tacky and wrong if executed poorly. when done right- brass looks so timeless and classy. brass will look awesome in the kitchen, bath, and ornamental/accessory pieces throughout the home.

2. light colored wood

dark woods are classic and have been ever so popular the last decade but light, honey color wood could be the look this year. fresh and light design.

3. ethnic inspired prints

ethnic upholstery, fabric, and prints used in a variety of ways this year. adding that exotic touch to break up otherwise bland interior spaces. bring some culture and authenticity into your home with a pillow, cushion or covering.

4. hair on high

hide no longer only resides on the floor-- it is now promoted to chairs, tables, cushions, sofas and more. faux is the way to go so we aren't harming any animals out there.

it's all about the blue-- from home to fashion and every shade of blue along the way. turquoise and navy are on the top of the list, but basically every shade of blue is trending. use blue in accessories, furnishings, on walls, in the kitchen-- it is being seen in every room of the home.

I hope you all have something fun planned for the weekend-- it's supposed to snow like crazy here so just relaxing and hanging inside is probably what we'll be doing...maybe get a project or two done :)
